Episode 43 of the marketing life podcast. This is Taylor Timothy, your host, and today we’re going to be talking about how to leverage youtube ads for your business. Now, the reason why I bring this up is I personally believe youtube has yet to hit its all time high. I think youtube is still in its infant stage of life and everybody needs to be running youtube ads or their business. So let’s not waste any more time and dive ride, right?
Create Video For Your YouTube Ads
And so the very first thing I want to talk about today is kind of like the video you need to be creating for your youtube ads. So when you’re creating these videos, one of the first things that is a must in my opinion, is you need to have a blurry background.
Blurry Background = Focused
The reason why is basically the viewer is going to be more focused on the person talking and the ad that’s going on. So make sure you have a blurry background. Now, this isn’t a video creation podcast, but basically go out there on youtube and figure this out on how to get a blurry background. Now, if you’re shooting them for yourself, fear that out. If you’re an online marketer, tell your client when they shoot these videos, they need to have a blurry background.
Great Lighting For Quality Video
The other thing is making sure you have good lighting. Now you don’t have to go out there and buy a lighting kit. Basically, if your subject is standing near a window and looking towards the window and the camera’s facing away from the window, your subject is going to have good lighting on their face and you’re going to have good lighting.
Give Something Away For Free
Now, youtube, you have to realize that you guys are stopping them. You are immediately stopping their video, their you’re interrupting them, so I highly recommend that you give away something for free so you guys have got to give something away for free, whether it’s a video series, a consultation, whatever it is, you need to have a good offer, so make sure you’re giving away something for free.
Use Animated Texts
The other thing I’ve found to be successful is using animated text. So obviously don’t make this look super clunky, but make sure you have animated texts on the video, whether it’s off on the right hand side, just kind of explaining the video as it goes. So animated texts helps draw attention to these people.
Be Fun And Engaging To Your Audience
And then obviously I, I talk about this a lot. You guys have to be fun and engaging. So inside these videos you got to figure out a way to engage your audience and be relatable. People like authenticity. So be fun and engaging inside these videos. And this is going to help you guys create these videos that is going to help you convert these people.
Target With Keywords
So the next thing we’re going to talk about is keyword targeting. So making sure you’re actually using the proper keywords, your industry. So if you are going after keywords that aren’t relevant to your business, I promise you guys, your youtube ads are going to suck and they’re not going to work. So make sure you’re going after specific keywords and being very targeted with your keywords. This is just going to help you guys convert better.
Target With Topics
So this also goes along with topic targeting. So inside of Youtube you can do topics, it’s kind of like Facebook as well or interest base, but you can target topics so you can go after like cells or there’s so many different topics out there. But again, being specific with your topics can obviously show and affect how well your ads are running.
So if you are in a man’s clothing line and you’re targeting women’s clothing line, what is the point? Again, be very smart with your topics that you’re going after. I have found more success with keywords versus topics, but again, you’re going to have to go out there and test your business and figure out what is working.
Remarketing Campaigns To Retarget Your Audience
And last but not least, you need to make sure you guys have a remarketing campaigns set up. So anybody that comes to your website, you need to be running ads to them over on Youtube.
So, for example, if someone comes to your website and then they leave, you can run ads over on youtube and basically it doesn’t matter what video that about to watch your ad will pop up before they have to watch their actual video. This is one of the most successful ways that you can be successful on youtube is using remarketing. And in all honesty across the board, I find that remarketing produces the best results across the board. So always be running remarketing campaigns.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
So you might ask Taylor, how do I know if my youtube ads are actually performing for my business?
View Rate Using Youtube: 15% or Higher!
So some of the Kpis I recommend over on Youtube is make sure your view rate is 15% or higher. If it’s not 15% or higher, you need to go back to the drawing board. Maybe you need to switch up your targeting. I will say if it’s remarketing and it’s off 15% or higher, kick those suckers off and reshoot your ad. You need to figure something else out. As far as conversion goes, conversion rates are really low on youtube.
Bulls-eye on YouTube Conversion: 0.2%
So on Youtube with your conversion, I have found that 0.2% is kind of that target on conversion. So 0.2% of people that see your video will actually convert. Now you will say this is lower than Facebook.
So I have a personal belief that you need to be running ads across the board, Facebook, Youtube, across the board. You need to be running ads on all these different locations. The reason why you might drive someone from Facebook to your website and now your remarketing them on Youtube. So these things feed each other.
I’m a believer, you need to be doing it all. Facebook ads, Instagram ads, Youtube ads. You need to be doing email drips. You need to do be doing it all across the board. The other thing is with youtube you’re actually targeting specific key words.
So your cost per conversion is actually going to be a little bit higher because you are being very, very specific. Youtube is a more targeted than Facebook. Facebook is kind of like someone’s just scrolling through, checking out their feed and now they get stopped. Oh, I guess I’ll download it. So I’m, again, I’m a believer you need to be doing it all.
