Episode 170 of the local DMA podcast. This is Taylor Timothy, your host. And today, guys, we’re going to be talking about the most important things that you target on Facebook. Basically the best audiences that you should be targeting, and we’re not going to waste any more time and dive [inaudible]

How’d you guys like that new intro for all you Watchers out there, listeners the songs the same, but I just made a cooler little intro for our video, but yeah, it took me some time. Hope you guys liked it, but anyways, let’s talk about the most important audiences that you should be talking that you should be targeting on Facebook. The very first audience that I want to talk about today is your 1% lookalikes. Now there’s a variety of ways that you can do these 1% lookalikes. You can do 1% of lookalikes of your site traffic. You can do 1% lookalike of your email lists. You can do 1% lookalike of lots of different things, but in all honesty, guys, this is the most important type of audience that you can be targeting. Now, if you’re a brand new business running Facebook ads for the first time, and you don’t have an email list, unfortunately, and you don’t have any site traffic, unfortunately, you can’t do this just yet, but these are the most highly targeted audiences out there that you can produce the most results from is your 1% lookalikes.

Now, the second list that I want to talk about, or the second audience you should be targeting in all honesty guys is simply just retargeting. So the list would consist of site visitors, video view, 25% people that have watched your video. You retarget to them, people that have liked commented, engaged, messaged your video, sorry, messaged your page. Um, you could also do upload an email list. If you have that and you can re target to those demographics as well. That’s the second one. Now the third one is all of Facebook’s audiences that they have now. You’re like, holy cow, Taylor, that is super general, but I want to give you guys a simple tip and trick with this. And this is what I’ve found when using them. Now, obviously you have to do some research on your audience that you have that like for your own product, right?

So you need to do that type of research. But this is a little tip and trick I want to share with you. Don’t just feel an entire had set with all of these audiences. Facebook has broken these down for you. They’re very and highly targeted as is. Facebook is smart. They have their day. So what I’m going to tell you right now is if you are a brand new company, this is you should be doing on Facebook or a newer company, and you don’t have all these lookalike audience [inaudible]. This is what you do. You set up your campaign, you do campaign budget optimization. You create let’s just say 10 to 20 ad sets depending on your budget. And then what you do is you target specific interests that are on Facebook. So to give you an example, you would have your campaign campaign, budget optimization ticked on.

Then underneath that each ad set, you’re going to name it, what you’re targeting. So an example would be your target, the interest Tesla. Then you target the interest NBA. Then you’d target the interest mothers. Then you target the interest, a higher education, and the list goes on and on. This is what I found with startups. Why you break down the list like this, basically, Facebook’s going to start going after and kind of figuring out those types of interests of who you’re trying to actually target. And then at some point in life, you will be able to target your lookalikes and things like that. So give you a breakdown again, your lookalike or your most powerful audience out there. Your second is retargeting in all honesty, retargeting could be number one, but those two audiences. And then the third one is just making sure that you organize your ad, your campaign to actually have specific audiences.

So you know who you’re actually getting leads from. So if you’re targeting Tesla, you at least know Tesla’s getting your leads versus MBA players or people that are interested in MBA is not generating leads. So it kind of gives you an idea of who you’re actually getting leads from as far as that goes. So hopefully this helps you guys kind of run your Facebook campaigns. I promise you if you target your lookalikes more than likely, you’re going to get results. If you have a big list and tons of traffic, it’s going to start producing results pretty dang quickly, or if your ads and everything are good and then retargeting obviously helps. And then obviously just breaking down and letting Facebook do its job, but finding out those audiences as well.
