Introduction to the Marketing Lyfe Podcast Ep. 144
Okay, here we go. Episode one 44 of the marketing life podcast. This is Taylor Timothy, your host. And today, guys, we’re gonna be talking about Facebook messenger ads versus Instagram direct ads. Now the truth is sometimes people don’t understand that these are actually different, but that’s what we’ll be talking about today. So let’s not waste any more time and dive right in.
Facebook Messenger Ads Versus Instagram Direct Ads
So guys, today we’re talking about the Facebook messenger ads versus Instagram direct ads. So one of the things that you guys have to realize is these are different.
Run Messenger Ads on Ad Set Level
Um, a lot of times on Facebook, um, Facebook will automatic on the Facebook ads platform. It’ll automatically run ads over on Instagram, but what I’ve found is you actually have to tell Facebook ads manager, where you want to run these messenger based ads. So where this happens and where you can change. This is actually on the ad set level.
Message Destination
So after you’ve gone in selected the messenger that you want to run messenger ads in the ad set level, you have a thing called message destination. Now, if you’re on the Facebook live, you’re gonna be able to see this on my screen for all you podcast listeners, just follow along. So basically it, it says message destination. So you have the option to run messenger. You have the option to run WhatsApp, business messenger ads never ran those to be quite honest.
Instagram Direct
And then you have Instagram direct. So one of the things that I noticed right away, we’re targeting the United States. And basically if we switched to Instagram direct, basically you’re going to see here that our audience cuts in half, which is pretty crazy.
Facebook Audience v.s. Instagram Direct Audience
So if we run messenger, we have, we can target, you know, targeting the whole United States. We have 220 million that we can target. Instagram cuts that in half to like one 30, 130 million. Um, but this just so you guys know, you have to let Facebook know where you want to run these types of ads.
What are my results?
Now, what have I found on my end as far as results go? So for the particular business and industry I’m running ads for, I found personally that messenger based ads are better over on Facebook versus Instagram direct. Now the cost per message I was getting, um, for one client for the messenger ads was around $3 per message. And we ran Instagram direct and actually shot up to $8. Now another scenario, um, different client ran messenger ads on Facebook, cost per message was $4. Instagram direct was $5.
Now why that is, I don’t have the answer, but what I’m telling you is you’re going to have to go in test these things for your particular scenario and find out what works best for you guys as far as results go. So, like I said, it’s just important that I brought this up with you guys. So you guys know this, that if you’re wanting to run Instagram messenger ads, you have to make sure it’s Instagram direct and you have to have a different ad set, technically running. And then if you want to do messenger on Facebook, you have to have another ad set. That’s running messenger. You can’t run them together. So that’s just what I wanted to share with you guys today.
