Episode one Oh three of the marketing life podcast. This is Tara Timothy, your host. And today guys, we’re gonna be talking about Facebook ad changes where the special ad category. So recently as we know, Facebook created the new special ad category that basically falls under and affects the housing industry, the employment industry and the credit industry.
So basically you’re a realtor if you’re just trying to hire, you’re a business owner just trying to hire, you know, um, potentially it’s under the employment and then credit that’s card offers, auto loans, um, those types of people. So Facebook has made some changes that will help us for targeting purposes. So let’s not waste any more time and dive right in.
Facebook Ad Changes
So guys, when these changes were implemented, basically what it did is made us, so we couldn’t target on a geo basis as tight as we would want to.
No Zip Codes to Geotarget
So we can still do radiuses, but we can’t do zip codes like we used to be able to.
No Look-A-Like Audiences
And the other thing they took away from us was look alike audiences. So anybody or lists that we upload, basically they made us, so we can’t use those in a special ad category.
New Facebook Change: Special Ad Audience
But recently Facebook has released an option to kind of do some similar types of lookalikes for these types of categories. Now immediately you want to think that you could go underneath audiences inside of Facebook to get this, but for some reason you still can’t do that. You have to go around about way.
How to Get There
So if you guys are listening to this, you might want to get on your computer and check this out.
Campaigns
So if you guys go into your campaigns and then you go into your ad set and press edit.
Targeting Area
Basically you get the targeting area where you can target how much you want to spend that, your conversion event potentially, and different things like that.
Create New Audience
So then you get down to create your new audience. So what you can do here inside of the create new audience, if you hit the blue button that says create new the dropdown, you can actually click on special ad audience.
Special Ad Audience
So basically what they’re allowing is a type of look alike, but they’re calling it a special ad audience. That’s a, it’s kind of a dumbed down version you could say of the lookalikes. So you can basically, you know, take your page and you can create, use it as a source and you can create a new or whatever special ad audience that’s obviously still in the category in my opinion, have a look alike audience. So that’s what they’ve just released, that’s allowing us to target when we are obviously dealing with these types of ad types.
No Gender Option
So other things as well as you guys know, they took away age, they took away gender. You can’t go in and target those specific things, but they will allow us to at least have some audiences back that are called special ad categories.
New Facebook Change: Dashboard
So last but not least, guys, the dashboard on Facebook has still changed. Um, this change back for me back in June. Um, but I’m still seeing some ad accounts that I’ve like worked with them, like just kind of consulted them a little bit and they still don’t have the option to switch back and forth from the new Facebook version to the old one. So it’s still definitely rolling out. It’s taking time. Um, but I actually do like the new dashboard look and fill. It took a long time to get used to it. But now I’m used to it and I actually kind of enjoy it.
